Kimball Sterling has had two cane auctions recently [May& June ] with interesting results + Kimball announced that [ after he placed some additional ivory canes in the June auction] that he was getting some “last chance” ivory sales in before the July 6th ivory ban is in effect. In May auction 3 hardstones were featured with hammer sales of $4,800-$5,800 3 nice elephant canes sold, well carved whale tooth handled for $3,1oo, pique dated 1669 brought $4,700, a Tiffany jade for $1,400. In his June auction half of the lots went unsold, but a bowenite Faberge brought $30,000 and a coral sold at $7,000 and his Narwhal sold for 7,500 [Similar one sold by him for $8,800 last year]. Gun canes also sold well at this auction. On the whole the silver handled canes either did not sell or sold below there suggested range. The latter has ben a trend of the last several cane auctions in the US.
